The Role

An opportunity has arisen for an Multi-skilled maintenance engineer based at our Knottingley site in West Yorkshire. Reporting to our Engineering manager the role is part of an engineering team of 6. Working hours based on a rotational 3 shift pattern of 8-hour days, afternoons and nights. Basic hourly contract of 40 to 48 hours per week worked flexibly with weekend working required to suit maintenance and operational demand, usually 1 Saturday morning in 3.

General responsibilities:

  • Hands-on position holding responsibility for efficient repair and service of operational plant and equipment. 
  • Repair of all plant breakdowns both electrical and mechanical.
  • Servicing and overhaul of plant and equipment.
  • Active application of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles.
  • Identify and assess cause of failure and execution of repair / corrective action.
  • Participation of routine maintenance systems and execution of appropriate corrective action / recommendation of further necessary work.
  • All activity in compliance with the company Environmental & Health & Safety Policy.
  • Efficient and proactive execution of all activities.

Personal attributes required by the demands of the role are:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar background.
  • A good mechanical knowledge including hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience in fabrication and welding.
  • Electrical competency including fault finding on control systems and automated 3 phase plant equipment.
  • Honest and reliable.
  • Positive proactive and flexible attitude towards work.
  • A desire for improvement and change.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Team worker and Leadership.

The candidate

A degree of physical activity is intrinsic within this role, including manual handling of large machinery parts/components and other equipment, negotiating steps/ladders/vertical ladders and above ground open-mesh floor walkways, working at height, accessing various areas of production machinery, at times the use of hand/pneumatic tools. There is also a requirement to wear items of personal protective equipment, (PPE), including, for certain tasks, respiratory protective equipment.
